August 10th: Coral Bay
[No pictures for this day, as the camera was broken. We might add some pictures later, when those taken with the traditional camera have been developed and scanned in]

"Same procedure as every day": Cereals and skim milk for breakfast.

Then a walk to the different operators, to find the tour that best would fit our ideas of seeing the wildlife of Coral Bay. It turned out to be a 2-hour tour with at glass bottom boat. One hour watching the corals through the glass bottom, then 45 minutes of snorkeling at the reef. As it was quite chilly that morning and the wind still was blowing strong, we chose to wait till noon before doing the tour.

Edlef hadn't snorkeled with success before, so we went to the beach for a quick introduction. As usual Klaus took the digital camera in the waterproof case along - but this time the f@#&!#!%%@ thing decided to be a water case - not a waterproof one. The camera got wet and though dried out in the sun immediately afterwards, it's apparently "Game over man, game over" :-(.

At noon we boarded the Sub-Sea Explorer and spent the first hour on it sitting behind the glass in the bottom of the boat, watching the corals gliding slowly underneath as the boat went through the water. Corals of all kinds, forms, and colours, shells, clams, fish of all sizes; some unicoloured, some black and white, and some had been coloured by nature using the rainbows entire spectrum.

The boat then anchored up; We got the snorkeling gear and jumped in the water. Floating overhead the coral reefs, watching the fish swimming in and out the corals. Some standing motionless in the water for many seconds, then with just a hardly noticeable movement of their tail disappearing into the corals. Snorkeling, sometimes moving slowly, at other times just floating, is really great fun!

Edlef tried many things to keep the water out of his nose. For instance he cut some cork from a wine bottle to fit his nostrils. It wasn't pretty ;-) ... and didn't work either. Finally he found out, that just holding the nose shut with one hand and swimming with the other arm worked reasonably good. He loved the snorkeling.

Afternoon had come - time for a coffee and an ice cream. Then back to the backpackers to pick up a book. A couple of hours in the comfortable chairs beside the swimming pool, writing postcards - and getting a nap. Great afternoon, and (apart from the accident with the camera) a great day.

A great day should end with a great meal, and so it did. Linda and Klaus prepared some Nachos and Burritos.
