July 30th: Fitzroy Crossing (Geikie Gorge)
Some places in Australia you are really handicapped without a car. Fitzroy Crossing is one of them.

Somehow our cereal (Kellogg's Special K with exotic fruits and Crispix) had disappeared - we probably forgot it in Kununurra - so there was no breakfast. The restaurant was closed (Sunday) and the town is not really within walking distance, so lunch was also a problem. The option of having a hamburger at the bar didn't really appeal to us, so we tried to arrange a lift into town.

Geikie Gorge Finally Edlef found somebody that was willing to drive us to the supermarket in town. It did not take us long before another lift was found out to Geikie Gorge, some 20 km down the road. The two aboriginal guys that picked us up, drove us all the way although it was completely of their route. It didn't take long to get to our destination, as the driver put the 'pedal to the metal' and flew with 120 km/h over the dirt road, while shouting to us in the back that the plank we were sitting on was where the coffin normally went - it was the undertakers car ;-).

Closer look at the cliffs At Geikie Gorge we had lunch (luckily the supermarket was open or else we wouldn't have seen food at all that day), took a short hike and then joined the 3 pm boat cruise operated by C.A.L.M. A really good tour one must say. Compared to the other gorges we have seen recently, it was quite different. Geikie was part of the Devonian coral reef 350 million Colours of Geikie Gorge Devonian Reef years ago and you can still see pink colors from the corals. Besides from the stunning cliffs, we also saw a lot of freshies and various birds.

Getting a lift home was easy. The girl that picked us up stayed also at the Crossing Inn, so we got a ride to the door - very convenient.

Dinner was instant soup, which we had been foresighted enough to buy at the supermarket.
