June 10th: Leigh Creek to Kangaroo Island
The weather was fine, so we decided to head of early instead of trying to arrange to do a tour of a coal mine (we've done enough mines by now anyway).

Some clouds, but they were over and to the eastern side of the Flinders Ranges. Flying along the Ranges, we really appreciated the WAC that we had acquired the day before - it is quite interesting to know whether your altitude is higher than the mountains or not!

Wilpena Pond The ranges were quite fascinating especially the main attraction, Wilpena Pound, which is a 80 square km natural basin. Wilpena Pound

We continued to Port Pirie for fuel and lunch. The airstrip is quite a distance from the town and we weren't sure whether we should try to get in there. However, the world is apparently full of nice, kind people, cause the BP guy, Neil Baker, suggested that we could drop him of at his home, borrow his car to go to the town and leave it again at the airstrip. Port Pirie was a nice little town with good food and nice people.

Next we headed south for Kangaroo Island. We crossed the peninsula Cape Yorke Cape Yorke , and it was really a change from what we had seen just a couple of days ago up north. Green farmland everywhere. The clouds were almost overcast now, so we decided to skip the sight seeing and head directly for Kangaroo Island and hope for better weather next day.

Furthermore David Bell, the refueler at Kingscote, was awaiting us. The airport was 15 km away from Kingscote where we had booked a room. David did not really have to go to Kingscote, but he offered to drive us, and drove us all the way to the doorstep of Ellson's Seawiev Guesthouse. So many kind people everywhere!

The evening was spend in the large computer room, where we finally could get these pages updated.
