June 14th: King Island to Wynyard
Klaus on beach with kelp Drying kelp Today's target was Wynyard in Tasmania. The flight would take less than an hour, so we decided to spend the morning on King Island and head of late.

One of King Island's unique industries is kelp processing. The seaweed is dragged out of the water with tractors and air-dried. Then it is crushed and used in soap, ice cream, dog food etc.

Pink house in Currie Currie harbour After a trip to the beach to see where all this kelp comes from, we went for a walk in Currie and had a very expensive lunch at a local coffee shop. King Island is also famous for it's dairy products - a visit to the cheese factory was a must according to our "Lonely Planet". Even Linda, otherwise known not to like cheese at all, found the Triple Cream Brie delicious.

View from Table Cape At 2pm we left the island and had a pleasant trip over the water towards Tasmania, enjoying the beautiful Wynyard sunset scenery of the north-western coastline and the islands surrounding it.

At Wynyard Airport Paul was awaiting us. We went back to his and Chez's wonderful place to leave our luggage, and continued out to Table Cape to enjoy the sunset.
