June 15th: Wynyard to Hobart
The weather forecast wasn't all that great and the wind had picked up a lot since yesterday. The west coast was unfortunately out of question, but according to the state weather forecaster (an actual person one can ring and talk to), the east coast should be doable. We decided to go for it and fly to Hobart. Chez and Paul were going to fly with us, so we were limited on what we could bring - a toothbrush was pretty much all we brought.

The clouds were not so bad on the north and east coast, but the turbulences were! Mostly moderate, but with a few patches of what I would call severe turbulence. Not very pleasant. The wind was very strong resulting in groundspeeds between 40 and 160 knots. Other then that, and a bit of light haze, the trip down the coast was beautiful. Chez and Paul told us a lot about the various places we overflew.

The surprise was big when we discovered that finding accommodation wasn't as easy as we would have thought. The reason for this was the anchoring of John C. Stennis, an American carrier with 5000 mariners on board. Good business for Hobart, that's for sure.

Ship at the waterfront in Hobart We took a long walk around the Harbour and had nice seafood at the Drunken Admiral. Afterwards Chez and Paul took us down to gamble. The Americans had not only 'taken over' the town, but certainly also the casino. I had a hard time finding a seat at a black jack table (would have loved to write now that I won enough money to pay the entire FlacrOz trip, but that wasn't the case :-).
