July 27th: Darwin
Unbelievable how fast 4 weeks can pass. It seemed as if we just had met up with Lene and Dirk in Sydney, and then all of a sudden we were in Darwin and they were on their way home.

Dirk was supposed to leave very early in the morning, fly to Sydney and wait till next day for his flight to Boston. He managed however to get his itinerary changed and left us in the early afternoon instead. Lene left at 7 pm and Edlef spent all day at Darwin Flight Standards getting endorsed for flying in Australia and with Grummy in particular. So most of the day went waiting at the airport.

After Dirk had left, Lene, Klaus, and Linda went to see a pearl museum, which was interesting but did not explain the techniques of pearl farming very well. The girl that looked after the exhibition could not explain it to us either. So we never really found out how the seeding of the oysters is done.

After we had dropped off Lene, we went to wait for Edlef, who was delayed because of the military exercise grounding everybody for almost an hour (that was also the reason Dirk's flight was an hour late).

Well, all the waiting time that day was not wasted 'cause we had the computer with us and Mindil Beach market got the diary almost up to date. At Darwin Flight Standards we even borrowed a telephone line and got all the pictures from the previous 14 days transferred to our homepage.

When Edlef's instruction finally had finished, we were all starving. With food from lots of different nationalities the Mindil Beach market was the perfect place to get the hunger appeased. We even found some authentic Swiss Raclette and French crepes.
