June 30th: Sydney
Damned GST (General Sales Tax) - today was the last day of GST-free shopping - so that's what we did! From July 1st 10% tax will be added to most general goods :-(. The main target of our raid was the Queen Victoria Building in downtown Sydney. Stuffed with all kinds of shops - perfect place to do some foraging. But before hand, a couple of outdoor shops were swamped by us. The result of this shopping frenzy was rather moderate though: two pairs of sandals and two hats :-|. Total savings about $20!

The public transportation in Sydney is pretty bad (by Scandinavian standards). We had to wait for the bus for about three quarters of an hour although they are meant to leave in thirty minute intervals. A taxi would have been a far better choice. On the other hand, while waiting for the 461 bus, the 470 came by not less than 7 times!!! So when you need to get somewhere on the 470 route, we guess Sydney's public transportation should be perfect. ;-)

Who framed Linda and John Late at home, we instantly started preparing dinner. The menu was a typical Danish dish with meat balls and a variation of Swiss rösti. Ernestine and John provided the wine and good Australian beer. After the feast, John entertained us with some of his flying, diving, and camping tales which are always worth listening too.
